“World War I vs World War II” Between World War I and World War II there were many similarities such as terrible destruction, weapons, and the legacy they both left on the world, but there were also many differences such as technologies used during the wars. The outcomes of World War I and World War II changed the world in many ways. These two wars have highly impacted the world to this day. World War I took place in the middle of August in the year of 1914. The war occurred due to Archduke Franz Ferdinand, an Australian, being killed by a Serbian nationalist. On one side of the war were Germany, Austria-Hungary, and the Ottoman Empire. The other side included Great …show more content…
Other forms of Weaponry that were used were machine guns, tanks, poisonous gases and a few airplanes. World War I first started using airplanes to spy on other people, but eventually this changed. They started using airplanes to bomb people, but the bombings were not very accurate at all. Snipers were another tactic widely used in World War I. Snipers were skillfully trained. The snipers did not just shoot from far away. They also shot close-up. Another thing used in World War I was trench warfare. The soldiers were able to get close up to their enemies by using trenches. They would get close up to their enemies and wait until the right moment to shoot at them. Before doing this, the snipers would learn about their enemy’s trench systems and routines. They would take notes on when the targets might be present in a certain area. Poisonous gas was also one legacy of World War I. The gas was used because it came upon people who were unaware. They would use it over battlefields and the gas would kill a large group of people at one time (Tactics and Weapons, First World …show more content…
Nuclear weapons were one weapon used in World War II. Strategic bombing was more widely and more accurately used in World War II. The bombing was used to destroy another country’s ability to do well in war. One side would bomb the other side’s infrastructure such as railroads, factories, and refineries. These places were important to produce supplies for war. Strategic bombing was also used to kill large populations of people. With so much air fighting, planes started getting shot down. This caused night raids. Both sides in World War II used nigh raids. Night raids were not as accurate as raids during the day but they were a whole lot safer. Blitzkrieg was also used in World War II. Blitzkrieg was a common term for “lightning war” (History.com Staff). It was used to create disorganization against the opposing side. When successfully executed it would result in a short war. This would cause human lives to be saved (Strategic Bombing, World War vs. World War II, History.com
