The Scopes Trial (The State of Tennessee V John) was about the teaching of Evolution. Originally in the state of Tennessee it was illegal to teach the topic of Evolution in any state funded school. In the small town of Dayton, Tennessee, John Scopes was teaching Evolution and got caught doing so. At the end of the case he only got fined $100 dollars, which is kind of a joke, but gave the case the new name of The Scopes Monkey Trial. It got this name because most believe that man came from monkeys, and monkeys are funny like the amount of money he got fined …show more content…
As previously informed the Galapagos is a small island chain of the coast of South America. Ever since Darwin surveyed the islands and made the discoveries he did the island chain has become very popular. Most think of the Galapagos as the home of evolution. What brought Darwin to the islands was map making (Evolution). Darwin was the man that walked the land of an island recording the coast while the rest of his crew was on a ship of coast recording the land from the sea. The sea crew also tried to do the best job they could on recording the depths of the ocean, but as we know in that time that was not a very good job. Darwin saw the basic changes of finch as he went from island to island. The finch would either have longer beaks, different color, or varying sizes. These adaptations he noted from every island. To make sure when he came back home that the scientist would believe him he brought dead stuffed birds and a map of the Galapagos back. It took him a while to find the correlation as to how the birds even got on the island. What he came up with is that there was an easterly wind that made is possible for some birds to get blown of track while hibernating. This makes sense and most scientist of his time believed it as to why the birds where different was unique to Darwin. This is when he came up with that idea of natural selection that got touched on earlier (Evolution). In the end Darwin
