Apparent in both (past and the future) societies, the catholic church was known to be a “dominant political, religious and economic force”(Fiero,118). During the creation of the two art pieces, the catholic church was …show more content…
The School of Athens appears as if there is a large debate cycling around the worlds most popular philosophers. The tier directly above with the statues of mythological statues, then toward the middle (but still above earth) is the middle ground where Plato and Aristotle at the focal point among other great philosophers including Socrates, and ending with mathematicians people taking note of what is going on. The structure of the two are surprisingly very similar, just the actual message about what is valued more toward the top is different and reflects what was ultimately important to the people of the particular time …show more content…
The form and position is a crucial contextual element and brings the significance of religious views to the relief. The form of the relief itself is a style name Romanesque. Romanesque architects incorporated very classical ideas into their architecture. In Romanesque architecture, everything was very pleasing to the eyes because it followed the classical rules of symmetry, soft round arches, and harmony which is seen in the Last Judgement. The shape of the of the fresco itself is alike the relief and almost looks as if the painting of the School of Athens is actually mimicking the idea of a Romanesque relief, just not sculpted into stone. This is apparent in a variety of pieces from this age because in the early Renaissance (around the 1400s to the 1490s) it is said that, “Florence artist work side by side with literary humanist to retrieve Classic heritage” (Fiero, 408).The reason why this painting along other from this painting was the incorporation of mathematical application intertwined with the realness of the human figures. It was not until the high Renaissance where they take the idea of the Classical style and fuse real life proportions to make paintings as real as possible. This mathematical phenomenon is known as linear perspective. Essential how linear perspective works is lines are drawn using mathematical reasoning and merge into one particular spot of the painting (the vanishing point). The vanishing point, is typically
