Each year there are about 600,000 to 1,000,000 books published in the United States alone. Every one of those works of literature can be divided into categories which can than branch out into subcategories. One of the most popular genres out of these is fiction. Fiction is a story that can be considered imaginative or in simple terms, “made up”. The story which this essay is composed of is “The Rules of the Game” by Amy Tan. In the story, the six elements of fiction (plot, character, setting, point of view, voice, and theme) are explored. However, the main element, in my opinion, is the element of character.
