For nearly 500 years the Roman Empire was the superpower of the world, but many people and events led to their fall in 476 A.D. The decline began in 410 C.E. A few examples are outside armies invaded the capitol, they were running out of money and problems with leaders within the Roman Empire.

A couple of leaders that gave the Empire trouble were Odoacer and Aleric. The Germanic tribe leader, Odoacer, was trying to get the Roman Emperor to rule over the Western area of the Roman Empire. In 410, C.E. Aleric was leading the Visigoths. The Visigoths went to the capitol of the Roman Empire and invaded the capitol. As they went through the capitol they burned buildings and destroyed it and took their valuables.
