Both women minding their own business, one reading a small book and the other chatting carelessly on the phone after coming out of the store behind her. A few minutes later the women with the phone's ride arrived and she eagerly hopped into the car and idled for a bit before driving off. The woman remaining at the bench picked up her book again but not before noticing that the other woman had left her purse on the bench. She hesitated, and then proceeded to snatch the purse and walk swiftly away. This scenario provides a basis for sin to arise. When the woman noticed the forgotten purse her conscience presented her with two decisions. She could take the purse or return it to the store in hopes that it would find it's original owner. Our conscience works through giving us options based upon circumstance with both a positive and negative outcome, but the way that sin acts in our lives is that it corrupts that which is good. What really is going on at a deeper level is the hope for self betterment through outcome. Wealth, goods and self preservation are all good things when used in moderation, but sin likes to take these positive securities and morph them into a self centered icon. The purse thief most probably saw the purse and assumed there would be money, or something else valuable to her and so in her mind she was able to justify her action. This act of judgment
