In the poem and story “The Road Not Taken” and “Thank You, Ma’am” They both share the theme of taking the higher road and see the good in everyone. They both show this because they both talk about how they will remember this for a long time and that they took the road that was less taken. During the poem“The Road Not Taken” By Robert Frost he is talking about he took the road that is less traveled not literally but to symbolize something. He said the one road was worn out and used a lot and the other road was overgrown with plants to show that it was never used. For example “Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference” (Frost 1). This shows that he took a higher road than other …show more content…
The boy said he wanted a new pair of shoe’s and the woman explained to him that you can’t steal somebodys property and buy something with it. Instead of getting the boy in trouble she took him to her house and took care of him for a little bit and got to see the good in him. For example “You ought my son. I would teach you the right from wrong. Least i can do right now is wash your face. Are you hungry” (Hughes 1)? This shows she is taking a higher road than just getting him in trouble she took the time to take him to her house and feed him.

Both of these stories share the same theme but they lead in different directions. The “Road Not Taken” doesn’t talk about a specific moment it’s just explaining what you can do to take the higher road and how it would make you feel or how it would change your life. In “Thank You Ma’am” It talks about a specific moment like when the boy tried to snatch the pocket book. Also it’s not as confusing because it tells you all of the information.

Overall both the poem and the short story “The Road Not taken” and “ Thank you, Ma’am” share the same theme of taking the higher road and seeing the good in everyone. This is the theme because it explains in both the story and poem how they helped someone or they took the higher road and it has made the difference for them all of their life. I hope you have learned something from this information above

Comparing Farley and Frost Blanche Farley, the author of “The Lover Not Taken”, written in 1984, wrote her poem as a parody to Robert Frost’s “The Road Not Taken”, published in 1951. In the original poem, the author states that the poem’s narrator has to choose between two paths, the road that is easy, open and wide, or the one that is chosen less and walked on less. In Farley's parodistic spin on Frost’s poem, she instead allows the narrator to chose both ‘paths’, instead she is referring to men, both her lover, Jack, and a new blonde man. “The Lover Not Taken” has many similar poetic elements to “The Road Not Taken”, also both poems have a theme to tell the reader to live their life to the fullest. Both poems share similar subjects that try to convey to the reader that they are to choose the right path, whether in simple daily tasks, like picking which path to walk on, or decisions that are life-changing, like supposedly cheating on your lover.…

One might say that their thoughts may be too complex as both poems are superficial, simple and the goals of the poem are clear, proving there is nothing beyond that. Nevertheless, the imagery is deep and creative leaving a lot for the reader to interpret, the symbolism demonstrated in each poem provides insight beyond the poems themselves, and impactful literary devices that show how immersed each poet’s mind are indulged into their writing. The detailed picture Robert Frost and Dylan Thomas create in their poems is due to their enhanced capabilities in using imagery. In “The Road Not Taken” Frost is able to deceive his readers by using two words.…

Frost’s poem is a personal, almost romantic telling of his own experiences. The inspiration for “The Road Not Taken” seems to have originated as a jest towards close friend, and fellow poet; Edward Thomas. When Frost and Thomas lived in Gloucestershire; they took daily walks through the countryside. Thomas in an attempt to show his American friend rare plants or a great view; would choose different routes each day. However, Thomas would never be fully satisfied with the path he chose, and would habitually fuss over his unchangeable choice.…

Another difference is that both poems use iambic tetrameter but in the first poem he stresses only four syllables in each line where he actually only stresses three syllables in each line in the last poem. Another difference is that “The Road not taken” uses a setup of five lines in each of the four stanzas and in “nothing gold can stay” he only writes eight lines with one stanza. Both poems are easily understood, however, “Nothing gold can stay” was a lot easier to understand the real meaning of the poem. “The Road not taken” was short and straight to the point, whereas, “The Road not taken” was longer and it took more words to fully describe what the speaker…
