The beginning of human trafficking can be traced back to the practice of slavery and the slave trade. To explain the dramatic rise of human trafficking in modern times, Pourmokhtari (2016) postulates that it all began with the fall of the Soviet Union. I propose, to begin, we use the nonviolent paradigm. This paradigm postulates that peace results from “collective action and advocacy, willpower and disciplined rejection of violence” (Funk, 2016) This can be done through increasing public awareness that human trafficking is a not only a global problem, but local as well. If the Government of Canada is able to show that it’s not simply another country’s problem, then Canadians can accurately respond. Additionally, training both civilians and law enforcement agencies for what signs to look for can help identify otherwise silent and unknown victims. By doing this, victims can potentially be saved before they become the trafficker themselves. This happens by the victims being forced to recruit others. In preventing this, it can end a cycle of
