The colonial America was ruled by Britain’s monarchy and was made into thirteen colonies. The people were unfairly taxed and not represented in parliament. Therefore, many colonists began feeling malcontent with the government and took sides either with the loyalists for Britain or the Patriots who wanted independence. The American revolution occurred during 1775-1783, and it started with the Battle of Lexington in April of 1775. The Battle of Lexington was when Paul Revere and the other sons of liberty were warning people “the redcoats are coming.” After the battle the war officially started and dragged on for 8 long years. The victory of the American revolutionary war was because of the patriots’ diplomatic relations with other countries, the patriots’ military, that knew the land well, and the many political leaders that emerged to help stabilize the idea of America as an independent nation.
