The Rehabilitation unit in which I work has a total of 28 beds. On a fully staffed day there are two nurses and three nursing assistants, as the census is invariably changing, and it can be very demanding. One evening I was the only CNA on the floor due to understaffing. This posed as a significant challenge as there were no vacancies, numerous residents were two-person transfers, as well as the daily responsibilities that needed taken care of. Not only that, but there were three discharges, with an immediate turnaround as three new admits were coming in.
