The Real Thing Globalization

Improved Essays
Globalization can be seen as a good thing as well as a bad thing, depending on your position in the workplace. For example, globalization is very beneficial to developing countries because they have access to big markets in North America and can export cheap goods, but globalization is not a positive or white and blue collar working people. The purpose for globalization is to provide free trade from around the world, the creation of a worldwide market so that consumers have access to products from different countries, and the ability to move labour from country to country to market their skills. Globalization to me is seen as a positive for the world and the near future as we get to collaborate with other countries so that our economy may flourish. …show more content…
Free trade is supposed to break down barriers between nations when it comes to trading. Barriers such as tariffs and VATs (Value Added Taxes) are being reduced. In the documentary, “Coca-Cola: The Real Story Behind the Real Thing” we are introduced to a man who is just one of the people who transport shipments of Coke to South Africa. Melissa Lee, the documentary reporter, even states that they are able to transport over 85000 2 litre bottles of Coke in the span of a week. Thanks to free trade and globalization, there are Coca-Cola bottling plants in South Africa, resulting in expanding their market and making more money. Although globalization brings in benefits, there are some negatives that are being dragged along with it. There is quite a number of barriers that are still in place even after free trade from globalization; over 160 countries have VATs. Globalization does provide free trade, but there are still barriers that we can hope will start to come down in the future. Not only does globalization provide free trade, it also creates a worldwide market that allows consumers to buy products from different …show more content…
The reason why a company would want to transfer jobs from one country to another is because the other country has a cheaper economy, therefore being able to pay employees less money and have the company become more profitable. This is very beneficial to companies as well because they can save money on salaries by hiring people to work in other countries for very cheap wages. In the documentary we are also introduced to a young man who created a commercial for Coca-Cola and the FIFA World Cup. Coca-Cola asked people in South Africa to come up with a commercial for them, knowing that they wouldn’t need to pay them as much as they would pay a professional director from the U.S for example. This is a huge positive for businesses, but is a negative for employees. Employees might be threatened to take a paycut otherwise they will be transferred to another country to continue their work. Some employees are just unable to move so they have to quit their job and find a new one, and some employees will make the move and start fresh in another country. Globalization will create and take jobs. In conclusion I see globalization as a positive for the world because of what it brings to the table. It provides free trade, a worldwide market, and movable labour from country to country. Like anything else there is always something negative out of something positive which means there is a bad side to globalization. It still doesn’t

Also there are those that think many will get hurt in this globalization process. In the book Global Village or Global Pillage, it is discussed in depth that the globalization of the world will leave those who are poor and suffering right now, even poorer and more suffering as the globalization grows (Bretcher and Costello, 142). This goes along with the Darwin's theory of the survival of the fittest. It seems easy to talk about this when you are discussing animals, but it is a lot tougher to rational when human lives come in to play.…

The expanding globalization will not contribute to the sustainable prosperity for all people because of how we ship break and have no consideration of the toxic material goes into the ocean and destroys the environment around it, how we create pollution and how we also cut down a lot of our natural resources that we cannot sustain and compensate for how much we use, and how much we can grow back. With all of the things said above, we as a human society cannot support the existence without our basic human needs of water, food, and shelter when we have corrupted our environments to the point where we are not able to gather resources for those needs, and that is why I believe that globalization does not contribute to prosperity for all…

With globalization there are pros which include but not limited to, communicating better, developing allies for international security, and helping developing countries increase economic power. There are also cons, which may include producing more people that are poor, power (depending on how it is used), spreading/ exposure of disease, sharing of ideas creates violence/ crimes. When it comes to the Ebola crisis this reflects globalization because of the spreading of the disease and exposure to those that are poor and living in poverty. Also the sharing of the outbreak has spread to neighboring parts of Africa, which has created violence amongst citizens and government officials. I think the most prominent in this case is lack of medical advancements…

This new system is a way to replace the previous system that was already established ever since the end of World War II, the cold war system. The cold war system was designed to grow your nation’s power and a way to physically confront and balance between states. This turn into a minor conflict of power balance issue between what was considered the two superpowered at the time: the United States and the Soviet Union.…

Yes, globalization provides the opportunity for countries to mimic America. Imitation is the greatest form of flattery, to reject the idea of globalization because a country or its people want to mimic America goes against everything America is built upon, freedom of choice. And yes, when a country initially opens to globalization and trade restrictions are removed multi-national companies will see opportunity to capitalize on the vast numbers of unskilled laborers. In order for those workers to increase their wages the local employment market must become competitive.…

As the world becomes more culturally diverse, globalization and the effects on human relations is important to maintain civility and world order. “Broadly defined, globalization refers to a process of interaction and integration among the peoples, companies, and governments of different nations” (Chiu et al. 664).…

Trade Liberalization The first benefit of globalization is trade liberalization. According to Stimpson & Singh (2008), “Trade Liberalization is the process of achieving freer international trade with fewer and fewer restrictions” (p. 70). It can result in additional access to capital flows, technology plus human capital, cheaper imports and greater export markets (International Monetary Fund, 2002). Providing a virtual market for oversea firms allows consumers to have a wider assortment available to them at a cheaper cost due to heightened competition (see Disadvantages).…
