There were affections and love from his father and friends, which give him the support that the main character need to continue his pursuit of becoming a knight. The support from his friends, and his father’s love give him the courage and desire to change his destiny. His friends would be the platonic love of his friendship. While, being on his journey to become a noble knight, he found the ultimate inspiration from his lover. His new found romance, give him the extra drive and desire towards his pursuit of becoming a noble Knight. The love and support from his lover, pushed him to face his greatest challenge, facing his competitor. As a result, winning the jousting competition and was deemed a worthy knight. I believe in this story of William and Jocelyn’s love, have both the characteristics of eros and agape. Since, the lover’s love isn’t not only based on lust, but their love was also a love that represented spiritual and intellectual relationship. As Jocelyn, didn’t care about William’s identity nor the jousting competition. She only truly cared for William’s well-being and his safety. But, she respected William’s choice to pursuit his dream. And, supported William as best as she could. Although, towards the end, she wanted William to run for the sake of their love because she could not see William being arrested. As, this is seen as good intention coming from Jocelyn, not wanting to see her lover in jail. She did create a conflict for the main character
