The death toll due to the atomic bombs in Hiroshima estimated over 150,000 precious lives and in Nagasaki, 75,000. Half of these numbers were people killed on the day the bomb went off. Consequently, the thread of these bombs have kept any possible large scale war at bay, saving countless millions of lives annually. Truman had to face an unfavorable dilemma in whether or not to drop the bombs or to continue to fight the unyielding country of Japan, and I believe he made the right decision.
