But, because of the DDR, the doctors needed to wait for his natural death and could not extract vital organs because that would have, in effect, prematurely killed the man. The man, however, died without ever receiving the chance to donate his organs simply because the doctors had to comply with the DDR. Therefore, in practice, the DDR “limits the procurement of transplantable organs.” While society might find it morally wrong to allow an individual to alter the timing of their death, the government must consider the patient’s right to choose, and thus, move towards abandoning the DDR. Policymakers must recognize that the DDR effectively bolsters the black market for organ trade and highlights why the Chicago companies engaged in their immoral actions. To prevent additional companies from engaging in this illicit behavior, it is imperative that society eliminates the DDR, which will generate more usable organs and challenge the nation’s pressing organ
