Ever since the the start of this country, where we broke away from Britain because of the heavy taxes and low representation given to us we have been seeking to maintain a stage where everyone is given the basic human rights of life, liberty and pursuit of happiness. This, however, become a huge problem later on because it slows some pieces of legislations that actually promotes the wellbeing of society. For example, “the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Adkins v. Children 's Hospital (1924) that minimum wage laws violated the Fifth Amendment of the Constitution because they infringed on the freedom of businesses and workers to form contracts as they saw fit”(Minimum Wage Law). This comes to show that even though the idea of given everybody freedom sounds great, it restricts some key pieces of legislations from happening. This is true because there is nobody to truly decide how much freedom should be given in order to maintain peace. In another instance, the employers refused to accept the minimum wage law when the government stepped in because, “they claimed the matter of salary was between them and their workers”(The Supreme Court).
