Over 3.2 million students are bullied each year almost everyday. Have you experienced it? Have you witnessed it? What did the teacher or school do about it? Are schools doing enough to stop bullying? Many students are bullied, especially on social media. Not many schools do anything to prevent this situation. Teachers should talk a little bit more to their students about this topic. Children should not fear to go to school because they’re afraid of getting bullied. Bullying in schools happens a lot and there is not enough being done to prevent this.

Sometimes the bully will threaten them to not say anything. They are afraid that if they do say anything the bully will do something worse like beat the up, or spread bad rumors about him or her. They shouldn’t be afraid to go up to their parents or teachers to ask them for help. In Monona, Wisconsin, schools are getting tired of people getting hurt, they’re getting strict on this topic. “The first time a kid bullies someone, his or her parents get a written warning. If it happens again and they don 't try to stop it, the parents have to pay a $114 fine. Each bullying incident after that costs $177”(Anonymous). Of course cyberbullying is the most popular nowadays because young teenagers have all of these different kinds of accounts on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat etc. If they mess up on anything the whole world sees it and starts to make fun of it, starts commenting rude things on it and it just goes on and on. Bullies make up fake accounts so it’s easier for them to hide their identity. They make up fake names with fake email accounts and fake pictures, so sometimes it’s hard to tell who is behind the account. “Cyber bullying can be worse than other types of bullying because the bully may be anonymous or meaner than they would be in person, and the bullying can come at any time and in any place” (Bullying Statistics). So what can schools do to prevent cyberbullying? “When schools try and get involved by disciplining the student for cyberbullying actions that took place off-campus and outside of school hours, they are often sued for exceeding their authority and violating the student 's free speech right”
