“A designer baby is a baby genetically engineered in vitro for specially selected traits, which can vary from lowered disease-risk to gender selection.” (Arizona Board of Regents 2015) Parents would be able to select whether or not their child inherits a certain genetic disease, sex, super intelligence and some doctors believe that in 10 years time you will be able to choose the eye colour of your baby and it will have an 80% success rate.
How does designer babies work?
First scientists create an embryo using In-vitro fertilization, which is also known as IVF. Then within the first 5 days when it’s created they remove one cell from the embryo, after that they genetically test the cell and the parents decide whether or not they want to insert the embryo …show more content…

Consider the implications (positive and negative aspects) of the use of designer baby (CRISPR) technology from a social, environmental, political or economic point of view.
Positives:
Some positives are, parents can give their child genes that they don’t carry such as blonde hair and it eliminates mitochondrial diseases. It gives biologists and genealogists a better understanding of genes, it could increase a human lifespan up to around 30 years and it allows parents to give children as healthy a life as possible. Taking folate during pregnancy reduces risk of a child developing autism. This is an example of medically altering a child. (Ethics of designer baby n.d) It would prevent awful genetic diseases such as Spinal Muscular Atrophy, Alzheimer’s, Huntington’s disease and many others. Not everyone has to have designer babies if you do not want to you will not have to. It also reduces the risks of inheriting medical conditions like cancer, obesity, diabetes, anemia as well as many more.
