When people don’t know what to do they turn to what the majority have done and follow that. In churches we normally use people we know that they have been in the church for long or they have received great miracles as testimonies to the new converts. Those testimonies will help those who have come to our services for the first time to make decisions whether to join the church or not. Hegel’s idea that the modern world of civil society is created through selfish ends and a system of complete interdependence is an idea that is shared with many other writers. Specifically, the 18th century writers of Steuart and Smith share Hagel’s point of view. Both Steuart and Smith believe self-interest is essential in explaining the creation of the modern world. They agree that when individuals peruse their selfish interests and in turn, become dependent in one another, and consequently create the modern economy. However, they differ in the nature of how these two principles interplay in economic activity (production and exchange).…

There are many different ways to persuade a lost soul over to Christ, some ways more effective than others. Presenting the promise of acceptance, forgiveness, and eternal life brings comfort to the lost soul because a “promise” is displayed to the situation. Engaging the lost soul in prayer to receive Jesus Christ can help the seeker to confuse their wrong doings. Also enlightening a lost soul with the fact that Jesus is the son of God and the Savor of sinners. In the movie 180, Comfort uses the powerful rhetoric to a group of lost souls, who were opened with the promise of forgiveness, while realizing and confessing their sins for what they have done wrong in their lives, but was also joyful with knowing that Jesus is the Savior for the sinners and will accept them if they repent.…

When we communicate, not only do we want other people to understand the message, but also we try to affect their beliefs or actions by using persuasion. Communication always involves at least one message, transmitted by a source, via a medium, to a receiver, within a situational context (Simons, 1976). Persuasion is a way of communication to influence other people to make them to do actions, pursue goals that they would have not otherwise. It differs from other ways to influence for three reasons: (1) it does not imply the use of force, but makes an appeal to the person’s free choices; (2) it claims that the goal or action proposed by the persuader is in the interest of the person being persuaded, and (3) it aims at influencing through communication…

In the critique “Egoism and Altruism,” Louis P. Pojman strongly rejects the idea of Ayn Rand that everyone should have and egoist morality by explaining the “false dilemma” created between egoism and altruism. He explains that her idea of egoism stating that she believes “selfishness is a virtue and altruism is a vice.” He argues that while some egoist traits are morally necessary, such as self-love and self-interest, they should not be brought about or acted upon at the cost of someone else’s happiness. The idea that one ought to “love thy neighbor as yourself” means to treat everyone with the same respect and dignity that you treat yourself with, not to harm a stranger for your own happiness or joy. He argues against Rand’s theory by stating…

Reciprocity constitutes a major exchange system in every society. Reciprocal exchange involves the transfer of goods and services between two people or groups based on role obligations. Birthday and holiday gift giving is a fine example of reciprocity, as during these occasions, we exchange goods not because we necessarily need or want them, but because we are expected to do so as part of our status and role. If we fail in our reciprocal obligations, we signal an unwillingness to continue the relationship. The main idea behind reciprocal exchange is the concept of giving.…
