The Princess Bride

The movie, The Princess Bride, is a perfect example of a Medieval Romance. A Medieval Roman consists of seven main components which are: a near perfect hero, an evil enemy, a quest, test of the hero, supernatural elements, good vs. evil, and female figures. All of these are found in the movie and some even more than once.
Throughout the movie there are many specific examples of good vs. evil. The near perfect hero against his evil enemy is the plot of the movie but there are also many more. An example being when Buttercup, who also serves as a female figure, is first kidnapped by Vizini, Fezzik, and Inigo Montoya they are considered good against the evil of the pirate, who later we find out is Westley. However, after Westley kills Vizini and

Obviously Westley’s evil enemy is Prince Humperdink because he has taken his true love and all Westley wants is to get Buttercup back. Inigo Montoya’s evil enemy is Count Rugen, the six finger man who killed his father. The entire movie Inigo is on a quest, which is also a characteristic of a Medieval Romance to kill Count Rugen in revenge for his father’s death.
There are more quests in The Princess Bride because of all the different evil enemies and good vs. evil. Besides the quest of Inigo Montoya, Westley is also on a quest to get Buttercup back from Prince Humperdink so they can marry and live happily ever after. However, Prince Humperdink is also on a quest to kill Westley which is making it hard for Westley to get Buttercup back.
In order for Westley to fulfill his quest he has to overcome a couple of tests. The first is the Fire Swamp. The Fire Swamp is also a supernatural element because of its different characteristics. While Westley guides buttercup through the Swamp they encounter fire shouting out of the ground, oversized animal creatures, and very quick, quicksand. The second is the Pit of Despair. Here Prince Humperdink, with the help of the albino, uses a suction machine to try and kill Westley, but with the help of Inigo and Fezzik he overcomes death by using another supernatural element. Inigo and Fezzik take Westley to Miracle Max so they he can give Westley a pill that will make him come back to

Although most of the characters didn’t have much of a heroic side I believe the filmmakers put an emphasis on the motives of these characters, which determines whether they are villainous or heroic. In the case of this film, I would label Llewelyn Moss and Anton Chiguhr as the main culprits that are highly motivated by similar values. Llewelyn comes across a suitcase filled with two million dollars in the middle of a field. After taking the suitcase back home and burying it under his house, Llewelyn returns to the field where he found the suitcase. The owners of the suitcase were waiting at the field and chased Llewelyn.…

In Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone, the author J.K. Rowling presents many different themes throughout the fantasy story. For example, it seems that Rowling has tied some religious aspects into the story, whether it be explicit references or simply religious symbolism. She also delves into deeper ideas, such as good vs. evil, as well as death and immortality, which you might not exactly expect from a children’s book. Beginning with the explicit references to religion, two major references would be the mention of the holidays Christmas and Easter, which are both usually associated with the Christian religion. However, in this story they don’t seem to be celebrating these holidays religiously.…
