While the benefits are often stated to support the addition of IPE to curriculums, the risks are often overlooked. Programs must figure out the logistics of fitting a common course into an already packed curriculum as well as decided what is to be taught, how it is to be taught, and by whom is it to be taught. These risks may be solved however, if the benefits are only short in duration, are these changes in curriculums worth the resources? Critical thinking is not only the process of gathering information for analysis to help determine beliefs or actions, but, the process of identifying any assumptions or inferences made and questioning our thinking along the way. To have success in the clinic a physical therapist must have the capability to be a quick and effective critical thinker. The stages of development in critical thinking is a six-step progression. Starting out as an unreflective thinker, an individual would be unaware of problems with their process of thinking. From this beginning, an individual progress to a challenger thinker in which they are faced with deficits in their thinking. Following this stage, one attempts to change their thinking, but without regular practice. From this beginning thinker one makes the transition to a practicing thinker and realizes regular practice is required. Progression from this stage would lead to becoming an advanced thinker and this individual would stay up to date on professional practices.
