There are certain standards that man has created to classify how one may think or believe. In different cultures some believe different than others. In America, having many people from different cultures grants us an insight at many worldviews. Worldview is defined as, “The overall perspective from which one sees and interprets the world” (American Heritage Dictionary). There are many different worldviews and many ask a simple question. The study of this philosophy is called Axiology, which is the simple assessment of the nature of value. One can define value as something that one holds precious to them, or something that one loves. Value can be set on items that others may not love. For example, the value of a car set by the car company, and is shown by the cars price. If one finds value in the car, one may purchase it, but if others do not find value in it, they will not. This is a simple put by Ann Patchett by saying, “They go on and on about things that fascinate them when in fact those things are utterly boring to everyone else”(Patchett 226). It is to think about things in relation to each other and decide that one is better than the other”(Hartman Clear Direction). Business is driven on the success or failures of values. Values can be measured in two ways in business, one in the literal sense of currency, and two for the philosophical sense of ones beliefs or values. Mark Putnam shares a short, but very wise commonality between successful leaders in business by saying, “Look behind successful, honest businesses and you will see a set of values that have stood the test of time”(Putnam ethical values for business success).
