American football is one of the fastest growing sports in America, and it is continuing to grow in popularity. Whether it is pop warner/ little league, to high school and college football, to the pro level, or the NFL, it is very clear that the sport of football is very popular and will continue to grow in popularity. Because the of the average amount of people watching and playing, how versatile the players of the sport are, and its recognition and endless amounts of entertainment relating to football, proves that football is the most popular sport in America.

The only thing that interrupted the list, was the Republican primary debate, where it came in at number 13. Sunday night football was the number one show in all seventeen weeks of prime time television. The average amount of viewers per telecast in 2015 goes as follows: Fox ( late afternoon) -26.8 million viewers, CBS ( late afternoon) -24.1 million viewers, Sunday Night Football (NBC) -23.7 million viewers, Thursday night football (CBS/NFLN)- 17.6 million viewers, 1 P.M. games on Fox and CBS- 16.3 million viewers, and finally Monday Night Football (ESPN) 13.0 million viewers.. In 2016, college football's ratings were even higher than that of the NFL. Although the ratings of the nfl did drop in the 2016 season, it, alongside its NCAA counterpart, managed to pull in many viewers towards the middle and end of their seasons.
