A confederation is a political system in which the states, of a country, are sovereign so the national government is dependent on their will. The Founders chose to create this type of government because, at the time, the Revolutionary War had just ended and the majority of colonists were wary of a powerful central government and felt a greater sense of loyalty to their home state. However, with this arrangement, the Colonies would have nothing to fear since the national government was so dependant on the states.
