Assignment 8: 28: 13: 1: 5 Doctrine And Covenants

Great Essays
The Plan of Salvation is intended to improve God’s children, and allow them to return to

live with Him again. In order to do that, however, tests and instruction must be given. This

mortal life is an opportunity of immense spiritual and intellectual growth. That growth comes

naturally for some, and less naturally for others. Thankfully, our Heavenly Father has given

instructions through His servants and the scriptures as to how we can increase this knowledge.

Because of this, teaching is an integral part of religion, and, Christ’s Gospel. By further

understanding the principles of teaching and being instructed, we will further be able to take

advantage of those opportunities to receive spiritual enlightenment, through the Holy Ghost.

The charge to the missionaries of the church is exactly the same. Missionaries, or

volunteer full-time teachers, have the blessing of proclaiming the good news of the Gospel to all

who will hear their message. That charge comes with specific instructions as to how they are to

go about proclaiming the good news. From the 42nd section of the Doctrine and Covenants it

reads; “And ye shall go forth in the power of my Spirit, preaching my gospel, two by two, in my

name, lifting up your voices as with the sound of a trump, declaring my word like unto angels of

God.”6 Just as with other teachers, missionaries are to “go forth in the power of [the] Spirit.”

Without that Spirit, how would they go forth? Surely as men, and not messengers of God. The

Holy Spirit is what distinguishes a man speaking of worldly philosophies and a true teacher of

Christ’s Gospel.

Once again, Clark H. Pinnock opens wide my eyes to the power of the Holy Spirit at work in the world through the church. He highlights the need for the church to be empowered by the Spirit in order to complete God’s mission. For example, Pinnock says, “Like Jesus, the church must live not out of its own resources but by the power of the indwelling Spirit, which breathes, strengthens, inspires and guides” (Pinnock 115). This is a huge reminder for me not to depend on the world’s ideas or even my personal talent to communicate the Gospel; but rather, allow the Spirit to work through me. Also, there is a temptation within churches; and even the church I lead, to get “butts in seats” through fancy tactics rather than having people filled with the…

The vision’s aspects would be revised based on the wording. The author’s curiosity would question where the wording originated from to make such a statement. Kouzes and Posner states, “When we ask people to tell us where their vision come from, they often have great difficulty describing the process. And when they do provide an answer, typically it’s more about a feeling, sense, even a gut reaction.” Nevertheless, clarification is need when projecting or conveying to others.…

Galatians 5:22-23 states, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” Throughout the scriptures, it talks about identifying the Spirit with a burning in the bosom, however, that is seldom the case. Doctrine and Covenants 8:2 explains how the Spirit communicates with people. “Yea, behold, I will tell you in your mind and in your heart, by the Holy Ghost, which shall come upon you and which shall dwell in your heart. D & C 9:8 states, “But if it be not right you shall have no such feelings, but you shall have a stupor of thought that shall cause you to forget the thing which is wrong; therefore, you cannot write that which is sacred save it…

Here, John the Baptist sets out to prove the supremacy of Jesus to his followers, and to show how vastly superior Christ is to himself. John bases these claims on a few key points, so let’s break them down. First, John tells us that Jesus is superior because he has come “from above,” “from heaven.”…

Every disciple of Christ is called to grab the baton of the Great Commission, and run with it. It is definite that Jesus’s disciples should live with the Mission of God attached to their lives; because it is God’s command to go into all the world and make disciples. Let 's begin; the mantle of the Great Commission in the Gospel of Matthew is in chapter 28 verse 18, which says, “Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.” A word that should highlight the eyes on the reader is ‘authority.’ Authority in Greek is exousia which literally means, power of authority, influence, and of right privilege.…

What is the role of the preacher in delivering God’s Word? Paul had this to say in 1 Corinthians chapter 1, “For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not come to know God, God was well-pleased through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe” 1 Corinthians 1:21 (NASB) Given Paul’s statements concerning the preacher in 1 Corinthians 1-2, is it appropriate for the preacher to consider sermonic style and substance and seek to improve their skills of communication? First, one needs to understand the culture of the church that Paul was writing too.…

God’s Great Commission is “Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had designated. And when they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some doubted. Jesus came up and said to them, all authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age Matthew 28:16-20.” God has spoken and laid the foundation of what is required as a believers.…

Turner discredited the statement that speaking in “tongues of the New Testament was ecstatic, nonlinguistic speech, while Luke recognized them as ‘xenolalia.’” Paul considered Xenolalia because it was unknown to the speaker. Turner argues three points in details: tongues, prophecy, and healing. The author proceeds to differentiate between modern tongues with speaking in tongues of the New Testament.…

It is this power, or indwelling, that then helps the believer in Jesus Christ live out a more excellent life in any of the other areas aforementioned that come as a by-product of the central message of the kingdom of God. The question then is how do we do this effectively? Well, it can’t not happen if and when preaching becomes a task to be administered, rather than a calling to be lived out. Because we live in a fallen world, and the pressures of life, ministry in general, family, politics and the like can be overwhelming, the effort of someone greater then, is needed to accomplish this calling.…

4:12). With the Holy Spirit enablement, every believer should preach the gospel regardless of where they are – carrying out the Great Commission (Matt. 28:19-20). Now, the church shouldn’t neglect this ministry because if evangelism is neglected, then the church has not fulfilled its duty as a church – “who represent God to the world and who attract others to God” (Christopher J. Wright, The Mission of God’s People). Proclaiming the gospel should be the chief end of a church. If each and every one committed to this task, the church will grow in numbers and faith – “How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed?…

The first outward sign of the Holy Spirit in a person’s life is spontaneous witnessing about the Good News of Jesus. Without the dynamic power of the Holy Spirit, people generally lack the driving force to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ. It is the primary task of Kingdom Ambassadors to present the Good News of Jesus Christ to a lost world.…

In my reading from Dr. Gardener C. Taylor, I understand now that it is important to keep our preaching Christian. He talked about the Holy Ghost and the responsibility of the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost is to lead, guide, and teach us all things that Christ has said. I do believe that the Holy Ghost plays an important part in our lives and proclaiming God’s word. To me, it is the Holy Ghost that helps us to keep God’s word embedded in our hearts.…
