Family, is one of the many factors that go into making us who we are. In the novel The Outsiders by S.E Hinton Ponyboy’s gang is like his family and they affect who he is as a person. An example would be ponyboy smokes because most of the people in his gang smoke so he thinks it's ok. Additionally, Ponyboy keeps his hair long and greasy because the people in his gang are known for their greasy hair and are called greasers. As the story goes on Terry's father gets worse and Terry becomes embarrassed by his father and his behavior.This affects Terry's personality because he becomes selfish because he cares about how others see him rather than his father's condition.
