“Take pride in how far you have come, and have Faith in how far you can go.” – Christian Larson. This quote eloquently explains the old man's adventure he had with the marlin in the book The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway. To go more in depth, in his journey with the marlin he took in pride in never giving up on trying to catch the fish even with the ongoing pain he had to deal with. Along with pride, he also had faith by never giving excuses to himself to give up, and always thinking positively. Also, he shows his pride mostly when he finally caught the marlin after a 3 day battle with the fish. Overall, the novel The Old Man and the Sea showcases the theme pride. Like I said earlier, one of the themes in the book The Old Man and the Sea is pride. One example of this is when the boy asked what the old man had to eat and as their routine the old man would always respond with a pot of yellow rice and fish(Page 16). Some supporting examples include when he has a routine with the boy about yellow rice, and fish, but he never actually has the food, but says he does as a prideful trait. Another example is the battle with the marlin, and how he never gave up during the three day battle he had with the fish. Last but not least, he admits that he killed the fish for his pride, and knew he had to since he is a fisherman that respects his pride greatly. With everything being said, the novel The Old Man and the Sea takes place with an old man that has a journey that really showcased the amount of pride that he had with how he far he has gone with successfully catching the marlin, which can also be summed up with the quote “Take pride in how far you have come, and have Faith in how far you can go.” – Christian

He is “indignant”, by feeling angered at how unjust Eve’s decision was, to eat the forbidden fruit (“indignant, adj.,” def. 1). Considering how this word was used to describe how Adam was feeling at the time in the very first line of the poem, it would imply that it is a very important characteristic that he has, which the reader should keep in mind when further delving into the poem, as it will continue to influence his actions as the poem goes on. This proves true when the poem narrates Adam watching Eve leaving the Garden of Eden. Even as he was watching her leave in tears, although he felt grief, “…his pride/Upheld him”…
