Through the obligatory warning of cigarette companies the majority had a fair amount of understanding and knowledge of the negative effects that the consumption of cigarettes had on them and the third party. The second question that was researched was to non-smokers. The main reason for non-smokers to not smoke was the potential health risks that cigarettes cause. We could argue that the that there is still a lack of information because not everyone is aware of the cost of smoking however it is clear that most people are accepting the negative externalities of smoking and are aware of most of them. Even though this is not part of the information failure it does show the attitude towards the issue of smoking. In 2011 Marlboro promoted the consumption of their cigarettes. The German government however “banned the promotional images in In October 2013, Germany ruling they were designed to encourage children as young as 14 to smoke.” These campaigns could also have added to the large increase of young smokers in Germany. Due to the commune use of elicited substance and smoking in the media it has started to become a norm for the younger generation to take up smoking.
