The Nebular Hypothesis is a theory about how our Solar System was formed. It is the theory that our Solar System was formed from massive clouds of gas and dust. Then, for some reason over the span of billions of years, the cloud collapsed in on itself. The denser areas of the cloud started to pull in more matter and started to rotate. The pressure caused it to get hotter and hotter until it created the Sun. The material that was left over turned into a protoplanetary disc. The idea that the Solar System was created by a nebula was introduced in 1734 by Emanual Swedenborg. There are still a few problems with the concept of the Nebular Hypothesis. One of these problems, is tilted axes. As stated in the Nebular Hypothesis, all the planets around the Sun should all be tilted the same way. One of the pieces of evidence we have is that all of the planets orbit the Sun in the same direction. Most of their moons orbit this way also. This would make sense if they all formed from a disc of remains around the proto-Sun. Another one of the pieces of evidence we have is that all of the planets have the correct characteristics that convey that they formed from a disc of chiefly hydrogen around a young and hot star. Lastly, in the model of the Nebular Hypothesis, the Sun is formed out of hydrogen. This can be proved, surveillance of the Sun shows that the Sun acts as though this theory is true.
