The Montgomery Award Definition

The Newbery Award is a very Important award dedicated to kid’s literature. It is given out annually by the American Library Association (source 1). The Newbery Award is the first children’s literature award in the world (source 1). It was first given out in 1921 by Frederic Melcher (source 3). He encouraged reading among children greatly (source 3). Frederic Melcher is a former bookseller and editor or Publishers Weekly(source 3). He believed the award should be named after John Newbery, the father, or inventor, or children’s literature(source 3). In 1922, the Newbery Award was established in John Newbery’s honor (source 1). John Newbery was the first man to focus on marketing children’s books (source 2). He was a qualified 18th century printer and publisher (source 2). He owned a bookshop in London dedicated to kid’s books (source 2). His first book was written to teach kids well manners, and people loved it (source 2). The Carnegie Medal annually awards the writer of an amazing child’s book published in the U.K. The Medal was established in 1936.It is similar to the Newbery Award but it is meant for British writers.
