One poignant example of the misperceptions that women face in a male-dominated society is presented in the novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. The story takes place during the Great Depression era, when laborious economic times made it hard to find work, two friends, George and Lennie, manage to take a job at a ranch. At the farm they meet many people, such as the boss’s son, Curley, who is disliked by many including, noticeably, his wife, who is treated more like property, than a human.
