Albert Bandura's Social Learning Theory Analysis

The main concept of Albert Bandura’s social learning theory is that people learn behaviors by watching someone else. These behaviors may be ones that are new or behaviors that may change what they currently are doing. Bandura’s theory incorporates not only the behavior being observed but also the cognitive processes it takes to learn and assimilate the behavior that is being observed. This is accomplished by imitating the actions or behavior that is being observed. The influence of the observed behavior is then ultimately determined on what the consequences of the behavior resulted in. If the consequences are positive, the observer will likely adopt the behavior. If the consequences are negative, then the behavior will likely be ceased …show more content…
In outdoor education, the objective of changing someone’s attitude about the outdoors is to get them outdoors to experience it for themselves. One teaching strategy is to help students become comfortable outdoors and form a new understanding of how the environment is dependent on their actions. Employing activities and workshops that focus on ecology and conservation issues can lead to a connection with the natural resources and environment where the student lives. One such workshop focuses on the wildlife conservation and animal habitats by employing strategies that can change the perception of different species encourage a conservation attitude and increase the need for wildlife preserves. One project wild activity, the Dilemma game, encourages the student to use their critical thinking skills in a group. Another activity urges students to establish what impact human-related activity has on wildlife. At the child development center, we constantly teach working with others and controlling aggressive behavior. One girl is very aggressive when she doesn’t get what she wants and then acts out by screaming, making fists and shaking her arms. Other children see this and begin to mimic the reaction when they too become upset or not get what they want. Teaching strategies that promote working with others are important and why it is important to share. Breathing exercises, talking about why they are upset and how their actions impact other children in the classroom are used to reduce aggressive behavior and allow them to calm themselves on their own. Another strategy used is to tell them what the expected behavior is before we start. For example, if we are going to color, we tell them that we will be putting the colors on the table and that everyone needs to share and that they must remain in their chairs. If they do not, then they will be removed from the table and won’t be able to finish their picture to take home.
