Lusitania During this time in my life, it was already extremely difficult to cope with things. The loss of my husband was always in the back of my mind. Knowing that he wasn’t here to help raise my son, John, was the worst feeling that I have ever felt. Now that it had been five years since the death of my husband, I realized John and I needed a new beginning. I live in New York City and have heard of the Lusitania many times by almost everyone. It was a buzzing topic that was popular among every class. Not knowing what it was all about made me curious and soon after, I decided I would board the Lusitania and travel with John to a new place. I was able to start a new beginning even though it was not the way I was intending it to turn out. Having hope and faith in your life can make every situation better, no matter how hard things get. This was even shown by the captain of the German -U boat when he said, “It would have been impossible for me, anyhow, to fire a second torpedo into this crowd of people struggling to save their lives.” Captain Schwieger realized that his actions were the wrong thing to do and he couldn’t take the lives of any more innocent people. That is what I learned from my experiences. You can want something as much as you want, but that is not always how it turns out. Things happen for a reason, and I believe that I was given a second chance to do good for myself and others.
