Willow Brook was only meant to hold up to 4,000 “students” that went beyond 6,000. The children and adults were abuse, neglected and naked. They only had minimal feeding time of 30 minutes. Also, there were so many children and adults living there at Willow Brook, clothing was in limited supply. So most the disable living there were naked. They even went as far as injecting the disable with Hepatitis to experiment new vaccines on them. The society in the 1960s ignored the disable and left them in these types of intuitions. They became society’s dark little secret. The journalist who shed light about what was happening at Willow Brook State School was Geraldo Rivera. In 1972 he did an investigative report about the conditions and mistreatment. When the broadcast aired all over New York, society dark secret was out in the open for all to see.
