The Leadership Philosophy of PACS NyxoLyno Cangemi My personal definition of leadership is simple – inspiring and influencing others to achieve a goal. Throughout my career, I’ve had multiple leaders who’ve positively and negatively impacted my personal leadership philosophy. Most of my experiences with my leaders were negative, and those leaders provided me with the knowledge of the byproducts that result from a toxic command climate. The number of positive roles models in my career has been limited, and when those role models appeared, I gained very little from their influence.

While the feedback from my co-workers and subordinates was mostly positive, there was quite a disparity between my self assessment and the feedback I received from my managers. I’m fairly accurate in my assessment of the causes and effects of my leadership style and can course correct when obstacles appear over the horizon, which is why I often don’t seek feedback from my managers. This assessment showing up in the LPI isn’t surprising to me, but it does demonstrate the need to include them more in my decision making …show more content…
Every person is unique, and they all have their own styles, personalities and goals. There is no singular prescription to leadership that applies to all people. As a leader, I see it as my mission to help everyone realize their goals, assist them in developing a path to achieve them, and inspiring and motivating them to attain them.
Leadership is a prescription to which there is no singular miracle, catch-all cure. As each challenge is met, I hope to leverage my personal values to inspire and motivate others to achieve their goals. I’ve learned more from my poor leaders than I have the good ones, but how I apply those lessons to help shape and guide the future of the Coast Guard workforce is tailored to the specific needs and traits of those I
