Chapter 2
Amir and Hassan were trouble makers doing things like reflecting sunlight inside their neighbor’s windows. These were Amir’s ideas but Hassan never blamed it on him when they were caught. Amir’s mother died when giving birth, and Hassan’s mother ran away after giving birth. There is a kite flying tournament where boys compete chasing the kites until it falls. Baba takes Amir and Hassan to buy the best kite in the city. Hassan is the best kite runner in Kabul and knows where exactly the kite is going to land.
Chapter 7
Winter of 1975, the tournament is held in Amir’s neighborhood. Amir wins the tournament in front of Baba. Hassan goes to get Amir’s kite however, Hassan meets Assef and gets himself beat up for refusing to give them Amir’s kite. Amir saw Hassan getting beat up but could only watch and run away.

After this, Amir and Hassan stops playing. Hassan kept on asking Amir to play but Amir tells him not to harass him. Amir even says he wants a new servant, which makes Baba angry.
