It’s undeniable that new technology has brought some wonderful innovations to our lives. Whether it be bringing the joys of life back to disabled people such as Stephen Hawking, or allowing us to order pizzas with the click of a mouse. It has also completely revolutionized the way we learn. We no longer write a paper. We type a paper. What was once the job of a plethora of books is now the job of one search engine. With this new technology, the world is at our fingertips. But, is this change "bad"? Has the digital technology of today had a detrimental effect on the way our generation learns? Several authors, professors, and daily Joes would be quick to say yes. "It 's distracted us!”, some may exclaim. "It 's full of lies!”, others may prefer.

In the introduction to this piece, Rheingold expresses his personal journey into technology. He enthuses that he had tracked the advent of the internet and new communication technology for a long time, and it “…did attract his interest” to hear about PCs. It made him feel like a ”man from tomorrow”. (Rheingold 28). He enjoyed learning about computers and digital technology so much that he actually made a career out of it. He became a contributor to numerous tech-oriented magazines, and later actually taught an academic course regarding the very subject. Think about that. Some may say that maybe he would find another topic appreciate.
