How To Become An Effective Calculator

Welcome back to my blog! Since the last time I had blogged, I made a reading goal for me to achieve on a weekly basis. This goal of mine will challenge me as a reader much more than I have ever done in my past English classes. My goal for this semester is to finish a book every two weeks or read about 150 pages a week. I have read one full book last week, which was The Private Investigators ' Handbook, and it was quite an interesting read about the life of an investigator with all their gadgets and how they retrieve information for their clients. I am about to complete my goal this weekend when I finish the book I 'm currently reading with more than half of the book done. The book I 'm currently reading is Forbes Greatest Technology Stories. …show more content…
Atanasoff is known as the father of the computers because of his method of computing that was far beyond the capabilities of computers during his time. He didn 't conjure up this new method overnight; he spent countless nights driving around his town thinking of ways to move himself up in the academic world. To be a successful inventor, people must envision the future with creativity, and Atanasoff dreamt of a more efficient calculator for his students and the science faculties. A multitude of challenges faced Atanasoff when he was creating his dream calculator. It was the Great Depression, and every American was scared to do anything and conformed into fear. During this time, he had set out to create a digital method to compute data by remembering binary numbers from his mother 's teachings. Although he was able to make his method compatible, he was restricted in his resources and was unable to produce a prototype. He ventured out and requested for patronage, but little luck struck as many "were dissuaded by other professors who thought it was a waste of time and resources" (18). Years later, Atanasoff was still intrigued with his calculator …show more content…
One of the most important points the video mentioned was that creativity fuels our drive to success, and logic can only get you so far. With imagination being limitless, people need to stop thinking narrowly and must open up to endless possibilities even when it seems illogical. You must have an intention before you set yourself out in the world as this is the foundation of your success. The hardest part of the journey to success, like the inventors mentioned in my book, was the will to persist. The video made a good point that when people reached a blockade they don 't understand they become terrified of it, and they feel like their vision is not their destiny. This is the line that divides people from success. To accept the reality is to accept that the world is unchangeable, and you are incapable of reshaping the world. In fact, it is not the world that changes you; it is what you change in the world so it can be

In the texts "The Matthew Effect" by Malcom Gladwell and "Mindsets and Equitable Education" by Carol Dweck, the two authors seem to be arguing two completely opposite ideas, but they have a lot more in common when you actually break their ideas down. These two text give a problem (presented by Gladwell) and a solution (given by Dweck). Gladwell presents the problem that success is the result of circumstance, and Dweck fixes the issue by arguing that you can have success, no matter the circumstance, when you have a growth mindset. Gladwell believes The Matthew Effect plays a key role in a persons success.…

Many successful people do not begin as a virtuoso. In fact, most do not achieve success with only their power. They receive assistance, whether it was in the form of a mundane person or remarkable program. Two recurring factors Malcolm Gladwell mentions in Outliers: The Story of Success are opportunities, and as is repeatedly implied, environment. As Gladwell continuously proves many successful people, like Bill Gates, owe their success to those same two factors.…

To say that I am a reader would be a stretch. I can not remember the last time I picked up a book for my own personal pleasure. Some would say that should bother me, but I can’t agree with the reasoning behind it. Mostly people bring up how books have broadened their horizons and changed their way of thinking, which is something I can’t relate to. Instead, I would say that I agree with what a good book should do, but I can‘t say I have found a good book, or a page turner if you will.…

Those who are successful are not the ones who sit and wait for things to come to them, they are the ones who go out and get them. However, life is not always as easy as just going out and getting whatever you want with no struggle or adversity to overcome along the way. A critical part of life and becoming successful is overcoming the many obstacles and adversity that one will face on the path to greatness. Overcoming adversity is crucial; but an equally important aspect to obtaining success is having the mindset to accomplish anything. Ayn Rand, an accomplished philosopher and novelist, epitomizes said mindset with her famous quote, “The question isn’t who is going to let me; it’s who is going to stop me.”…

I always read as a kid. I was the small boy who plowed through books day and night, my mom scrambling to and from the library just to keep up with me. The only thing fixated on my mind was reading a new book and being totally captivated by the plot. Since then, I read less and less, sometimes going months without finishing a book. I feel sad that I spend less and less days staying up to midnight just to read one ... more … page.…

By adding up the amount of pages that I read and dividing it by eighteen my answer is 75 pages per week. I saw an improvement in my reading because the number of pages I read in a week had increased. I am quite satisfied and this motivates me to read more. I want to tighten up my gear and raise it to at least 100 pages per week in order to achieve my wish. Usually I would have read books that are around 100 to 200 pages, but this time it is longer than usual.…

For someone who is oblivious to the truth, it may be quite difficult to understand when they are first introduced to it, especially when they have only known one reality their entire life and they are told that everything they have ever known is incorrect. It can take time to finally accept this truth, but once it is understood, it will change their life. In both “Allegory Of The Cave” by the philosopher Plato, and The Matrix by the Wachowskis’, it can be seen that when man is blinded by his own ignorance and given an opportunity to learn, he is pained by the visions of enlightenment, but with time, will seek out those who are not as knowledgeable, and teach them his ways. In both “Allegory of the Cave” and The Matrix…

Why is the acceptance of truth so important for us? Because accepting the truth means we are ready to know or obtain deeper knowledge of truth that leads us into a reality. Hence, we will be ready to face a reality, even though, we do not know how a true reality will look like or whether a true reality will always bring a good impact to us. For example, we all have a clear idea in our mind that all human beings are mortal. All of us will die someday.…

Reading Memoir John Green, author of The Fault in Our Stars, stated,” Great books help you understand, and they help you feel understood.” Actually, reading books helps me to explore the world. When I was just a little girl, I loved reading fairy tales which brought me to many vicarious thrilling adventures, and when growing up, non-fiction books taught me how to become a good person. Besides that, reading has brought me to many various levels of emotions, such as joy, love, hate, fear, and sorrow. Some stories not only make me feel euphoric with happy endings, but they also make me feel despondent when a character’s deep sorrow touched my heart.…

For me personal mastery teaches that an individual needs to establish their own vision and values and align their actions to these visions and values. These visions and values should also be aligned to that of the organisation. It requires the person to look critically at the current reality and clarifying what is important to them and what they need to do to achieve what they want. This generates what is referred to as creative tension and in personal mastery it requires individuals to learn how to identify and deal with the creative tension in their lives. Creative tension can only be resolved when reality moves towards the vision.…
