The Iplies: The Umber Hunter

My beasts lives in an environment that is has numerous mountains. These mountains are covered in a layer of ice and snow. There are frigid winds that blows through these elevations. Between the peaks there are large expanses that have a thin layer of very slick and slippery wet clay or mud. This layer of mud makes it very difficult for any animals to walk on. In the places without the wet clay there are short fern like plants that have thick succulent leaves that are rich in water. These plants are called Iplies. Iplies are a bright green in the summer to blend in with other plants, but because they can store water their leaves they live through the winter. In the winter Iplies leaves turn brown to blend into the soil and dead plants around them. Like the …show more content…
The Umber lizard is a reptile that is in the lizard family. The skin of the Umber lizard is a brown color to help it camouflage into the mud and soil. This lizard also has no teeth that allow it to swallow it’s prey whole. The environment it lives in has a cold climate in the peaks of the mountain. To avoid this the Umber lizard lives mostly underground. They have very powerful legs to help them dig to burrow underground. They stay in the soil so they also do not need to deal with the slick mud. When they do have to go through the mud to find food, their feet have a lot of grip to prevent slipping.

Umber lizards are omnivores, so they eat plants and other animals. They mainly prey on Iplie plants and small mice. There are acids in the stomach of the Umber lizard that dissolve it’s prey since they have no teeth. There is one main natural predator to the Umber lizard in its environment. Steamus rolleus’ reside mainly on the layer of mud that Umber lizards try to avoid. This predator is the same color as the dirt so it is camouflaged to hide in Umber lizards habitat.
