Ploofers: The reason the draft riots where important? The draft riots where to draft the men in to the army for the civil war. These men had to be between 20 and 45 years of age. These people didn't like that the government had passed the law to draft men into the military. There was 1500 fatalities in the riots and 119 of them where from the rioters.
