A July 17 issue of Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report did a survey on 11,000 high school kids and showed that one and four teens drink some kind of soda a day. In earlier research studies showed that more than three-quarters of teens were drinking a sugary beverage each day. Even though todays number is lower than in past years it is still a alarming amount of teens that are drinking soda so frequently. Soda consumption has been linked to the dramatic increase in teen obesity. One study in Massachusetts showed that each additional sweet drink a day increases your olds of getting obesity by 60 percent. A study by Diabetes Care showed that soda drinks increased the likely hood of getting type 2 diabetes by 25 percent. The main ingredient in soda, phosphoric acid, has been linked to bone loss according to WebMD. Not to mention too much caffeine has also been linked to, bone loss, insomnia, high blood pressure and headaches. …show more content…
