The Importance Of Writing To Connect

Writing is a vital part of our society. We write for many things such as reminding ourselves of things or for homework assignments. The articles “What Corporate America Can’t Build: A Sentence” by Sam Dillion, “Healing through the Written Word” by Karen Cangialosi and “Writing to Connect” by Mary Pipher discuss a major reason why we write, to connect. Although they vary on the audience we connect with and how or why we connect, the theme is common to all. Most people automatically think of connecting with other people when writing and Dillion and Pipher use this approach in their articles. Dillion informs the reader on how we connect or rather fail to connect with people when we don’t write clearly in emails. Dillion does this by discussing the example of Professor Hogan being asked for help. The person requests assistance to solve their problem on needing information to improve the workers writing skills (415). Cangialosi shows that writing can make connections needed to solve problems within ourselves. She speaks about people writing about events, situations or relationships and how they affected them, allowing them to deal with emotions they feel regarding the event, situation or relationship (426). By writing we connect the dots of why we may feel certain emotions, helping the healing process. Like the other two writers, Pipher states that writing can connect people to solve problems. “Change writers,” she says, “hope that readers will join them” (438). With people writing to inspire others, it connects people together to bring about changes. An example of this is President Kennedy starting the ‘War on Poverty” after being inspired by Michael Harrington’s “The Other America” (Pipher

Writing helps translate exactly how I feel into words so that when others read my writing, they get a solid idea of how I feel and/or what my intentions are. Overall, writing is one of the best ways of communication when compared to just talking to someone. But, there 's also a downside to writing a letter to someone compared to speaking to them, because, when you speak to someone, you show emotion through facial expressions and gestures; a paper cannot show emotion very well, which is why text messages can be easily…
