The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is increasing their enforcement efforts in the healthcare field concerning workplace violence and safety (Wey). As a business, Human Resource Professionals are responsible for the safety and health of their employees. Particularly in the healthcare field, injuries from work place violence is four times more likely to occur than in any other field. In 2013, there were 100 reported fatalities in healthcare facilities, 80% were due to workplace violence with patients (Wey). From a business standpoint, HR cannot afford to lose employees legally and financially.

Human Resource personal need to consider the different levels of skill categories and prepare the employee for dangerous situations. Essentially the goal of nurse aid training is to improve job satisfaction, job morale, and job safety. This is extremely important for HR to achieve because in the nursing field, businesses have to deal with increasing turnover, unrealistic job expectations, job dissatisfaction, and poor performance among workers (Mileski). Fatigue affects employee’s mental and physical abilities that are required to perform their job safely. Causes of fatigue include lack of sleep and an over-bearing work load (Zohreh Yazdi, 2015). A fatigued worker in the healthcare setting may be dangerous not only to themselves, but also to the patients that they serve. Human Resource departments within the healthcare field need to make sure that employees are well rested to avoid dangerous situations.
