Several rich methods have been proposed to help heal America’s child soldiers. As seen in the case of The Interrupters, these mechanisms have the potential to be successful, but with Chicago as a case study and the highest homicide rate in the country (ABC 2013), without a major effort from society, problems like gang violence will persist. To have a lasting impact, however, transitional justice must address the diseases of society. I hold that transitional justice is better suited to confront issues such as gang violence than larger scope issues such as structural inequalities without government support. The US government very much contributes to this cycle of gang violence and imprisonment through mass incarceration and policing practices. While the problems of gang violence may recede eventually through transitional justice, until the US government initiates a process of self-reflection, a new disease will emerge and replace the
