Essay: Four Steps To The Writing Process

The writing process has four steps: planning, prewriting, drafting, and revising. No matter how I break up my process of writing, these four steps are the backbone to my writing techniques. I have a different approach to the traditional way of following the steps of the writing process. I look for a set environment, I brainstorm, create a finished product, and I have friends revise work. Here I will thoroughly discuss my writing process.

As soon as I receive a writing assignment, I read it twice to understand what is expected of me. After I’ve read it, I like to walk away and brainstorm throughout the day what I will write. In this stage, I don’t look for a finish product, I write as thoughts come to my head and just the way I would when I speak. When essays involve simple research I prefer to learn about my subject and then create an outline based on what I’ve learned. When I get to drafting, I already have what I want to say except things are a mess everywhere and nothing is in order, they’re just scrambled thoughts written as they come. I then, just go back and rearrange everything and according to the audience I’m addressing. If I can 't seem to organize my thoughts even though I have everything I want to say on paper, ill write the points of what I have done so far and make an outline. After, I’ll create a new document; rearrange sentences according to the outline I have created. This is the step where I will try to find errors as I go along. Though this is probably a complicated method, it works for me due to the fact that an outline can change midway through my essay when I don’t like the flow of things. Instead of wasting time writing and rewriting an essay or an outline I just free write. My introduction is written last along my thesis
