In the book Crabb states, “Wrong patterns of living develop from wrong philosophies of living” (p. 71). This was a thought provoking statement because it allows the counselor understanding through recognition that the counselee has gotten where they are in behavior through wrong thought processes. The Bible states, “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he” (Proverbs 23:7). As we counsel, it is important to recognize the unhealthy and unbiblical thought patterns our counselees will have. For instance, individuals who are dealing with severe depression and suicidal thoughts will have very strong negative emotions and thoughts about themselves. Each of these pearls have been reached at different moments in time and have honestly had a personal impact on my life, not just my counseling views. As I move through learning about biblical counseling, God has revealed these things to help shape how I will ultimately be able to help others.
