The aim is to ensure that the children are all treated fairly and have access to learning opportunities that will support their success. Why speak up for your child? There is evidence that children whose parents advocate for their rights in school become more confident and achieve high grades. The children stay in school for longer periods and do better than any other does.
For pre-school children, every parent and guardian should become knowledgeable about how the schools operate and the laws that govern the operations. The parents should also display confidence in their ability to work with schools and expect the best from their children and for their children. This can be done by joining the Parents Teachers Association. They should be able to raise questions and concerns about school and district programs, policies, and activities (NAEYC). Most importantly, they should understand the rights and responsibilities of their children and school under the federal laws, state laws, and local ordinances and policies
