In the corrupt world of Legend by Marie Lu, the common good is an ideology far from its government’s mind. There are people that do fight for the common good, however. In the novel, Daniel “Day” Wing successfully contributes to the common good. He does this by fighting for his family’s rights and equality, making June an ally of justice by telling her the truth, and by being both helpful and a pacifist throughout his quest. He strives in both little and large ways to establish the common good in a society where its most powerful members do not care about it.

He fights for equality and rights, helps to persuade June to join in his quest for the good of all, and improves lives of those around him instead of hindering them. While Day does not completely revolutionize his society for the better, the things he does do still makes his world and the worlds of those around him a little bit better. Doing even the smallest things to contribute to the common good helps. One helps to establish the common good when they help those they can, fight for people who cannot, share their knowledge of injustices, and choose peace instead of war. Even something as a simple as not actively going against the common good helps to establish it. Day does all of these these throughout the novel.
