The Importance Of Taking An Honors Biology Class

Decent Essays
On top of that I was taking an honors Biology class that everyone said was a tough class with a strict teacher. Everyone was making it seem like the end of the world, so I thought maybe they were exaggerating a little. Well, that changed after the first 20 minutes of taking that class. And it got worse each day. The teacher would give us homework every night, pop quizzes twice a week and impossible tests. It was like a nightmare that never ended.

I remember first day of freshman year walking into my first period class at 8 am, sitting down and in huge letters across the board it said Mrs. Hillis. As I sat down I was already very nervous due to my past experience in math and now being in a high school math class I felt it could not get much worse. As I sit there I turn to my left and hear the teacher pounding on her keyboard and sipping on her coffee very obnoxiously. The bell to start first period then rang and was so loud I nearly jumped out of my seat. The teacher stands up with a stack of papers in her hand and starts handing them out to all of the students, as she is walking around I am patiently waiting for mine and when she finally slams it on my desk I read the top line and it says Quiz 1.…

My hardest subject started to get even harder. There was so many stairs. Nobody was considerate enough to apologize for bumping into you in the hallway. Everyone wanted to use your locker to stick stuff in and ended up leaving it a mess. If it was hot outside it was extremely hot and smelly in the school.…

(CHALLENGE) I really started to struggle keeping my homework in line. I was used to having so much time to organize and complete my work; but now, I had basketball practices and games after school that consumed most of my time. A lot of nights I would have mental breakdowns due to stress. My homework also became much more demanding; College Algebra got more challenging week by week, Honors English papers required more time, and U.S. History current events were due every class period. My grades started to slowly slop downward.…

When I was walking through the freshmen halls, I thought that I was ready for all the stuff that going to happen throughout the four years of hell. Well to start out, I was attending band camp over the summer and we were working on our band show so school already started for me since July, two months before school actually started. Band camp was not difficult, but sweaty and just exhausting during the early morning hours. We would then have an hour of lunch, after that we separate the sections and had section meeting where we study the music and play it and also to discuss things about band.…

There are many traits and qualities that are needed to be in an Honors class at Hillsborough High school. I believe I embody many of these attributes. Creative and analytical thinking enables me to apply math and logic to complex problems whether working independently or cooperatively. In addition to using primary sources such as textbooks, class notes, and handouts, searching out secondary sources on the internet or at the library helps me find solutions to school assignments and personal interests. Social Studies are a favorite interest, offering a glimpse into the present day world problems and the ancient cultures around the world.…

Why We Should Get Rid of Standardized Testing Test. The word alone is enough to drive panic into the hearts of students everywhere. While some tests are bigger than others or worth more points, they all tend to elicit the same response of dread. However there is one type of testing above all others that needs to be removed and that is standardized testing. We should remove standardized testing because it costly and expensive, scores are used to reward or punish teachers leading to things like cheating, and are unreliable and have not improved student achievement.…

I absolutely dreaded hearing the words "that makes me very sad," spoken in a sing-songy voice by my teacher when an infliction was committed by a student. When she took a sticker on my sticker chart away when I accidentally put my classwork in my folder instead of in the hand-in box, she might as well have told me that my dog had died, because that's how it felt. I cried for three hours straight. This pattern continued until 3rd grade, when I took a risk for the first time in my life.…

Biology is the science of life or living matter in all forms and phenomena, especially with reference to origin, growth, reproduction, structure and behavior. Living beings have the desire to discover who they truly are and how they came to be the person that they are today. Many people have specific beliefs in an ultimate being that rules over all else, but most of these beliefs cannot be proven. The study of biology is based upon facts and hypotheses that can be tested and supported. Without biology it would be difficult to understand the beauty of life, and how living organisms are created and how the basic metabolic processes help organisms survive.…
