Superhero films are quite popular and can be told over and over again from different points of views. By having these films being remade so many times one is able to observe the evolution of the film. Here one takes note of the evolution of Spider-man and The Amazing Spider-man. Critical Assessment of a Work by Gary D. Rhodes Gary D. Rhodes of Queen’s University Belfast challenges many current conceptions about Hollywood in his work “ ‘Movie’: How a Single Word Shaped Hollywood Cinema.” Specifically, Rhodes argues that the audience has power over the corporation in this industry. He explains how the word “movie” is a major representation if this idea. Rhodes presents this argument because he has seen how common it has become to accuse corporate Hollywood of finessing it’s viewers. Films are products of their time and evolve as American culture evolves. As such, directorial use of existing technology, and the cultural desire for improved movie-making have led to the development of the motion picture industry. “To most people, a movie is popular entertainment, a product to be produced and marketed by a large commercial studio. Regardless of the subject matter, this movie is pretty to look at – every image is well polished by an army of skilled artists and technicians” (Barsam & Monahan, 2016, p.3).…

Being a big fan of comics, I can relate more to the concept of “hero” in a fictionalized super-hero than the Greek or western interpretation of the concept. Growing up, super-heroes were men who upheld justice, were selfless, strong, intelligent, mysterious, and rescued those who needed help. They tried to lead two lives separately but always had the inner conflicts of one singular person. Some characters seem to have more of an inner struggle than an external nemesis. Being that this is my opinion, I think that the more recent term of “hero” is the superior one over the ancient Greek form.…

The root “venge” means to “protect, avenge, punish”. One of the things I’ve noticed is that all the words connect back to revenge, which could potentially be similar to vengeance. By performing an act of revenge, you’re protecting someone, avenging (making up for) what was done wrong and it’s punishment for whoever made the mistake. Clearly “venge” is related to revenge, but I think it could also be linked to vengeance.…

Ant-Man is the textbook example of a typical Marvel superhero movie. It follows the basic, chronological three act structure that includes every cliché plot point in the book, all squeezed into a two hour blockbuster that any Marvel fan is sure to love. It covers everything from the anti-hero, an evil scientist, an elaborate break in, training montages, martial arts, fist fights, inspiring speeches, emotion, betrayal and of course, a heist. All this riddled with comedic moments and self-references to its semi-ridiculousness Ant hero. With Marvel essentially running the box office, there’s no doubt that they have found what works, and have stuck to it.…
