Physical Health Stress could be seen in different ways, given the fact that a lot of factors that could affect one’s self. One aspect of this is physical health. Physical health is important because it allows our bodies to function properly and in superior condition. There are several components which Koshuta (2016) considers to be the main factors to determine one’s physical health – physical activity, nutrition and diet, alcohol and drugs, medical self-care, and rest and sleep. Flora Gustafson of the Livestrong group also tells us that the common causes of stress among students include “poor sleeping habits, academic pressure, full schedules and poor eating habits” (2015). Students experience stress daily and being aware of these could help them feel less tired or heavy, and to motivate them. Similarly to the processes involved in the fight or flight response where the central nervous system determines what action one would take, the concept of motivation is also essential in “pushing” the students to work and respond to a certain situation. Because of this desire and willingness, a student is capable of choosing what would best fit in the given situation. Lastly, students also need to be more active because it also helps in keeping them motivated to do more things. Being aware and actually applying these concepts could make stress as something positive and could help in viewing stress as a challenge instead of a …show more content…
For example, a student goes to school on a week filled with major exams, deadlines and project submissions. It is a given that the idea of going after a good grade or quality point index (QPI) is directly affected by the outcome or result of these tasks. The student has to clearly identify and recognize that the tasks concerned are objective stressors because they are external in nature. The task that is given to everyone else in the class is definite and does not change. Each one has to study for that exam and prepare for that project. However, the perception of those stressors could be very different from one student to another, and this is where the subjectivity of the task enters the situation – mentally perceived stress. Hence, we can see that the combination of both the objective stressor or the external pressure and mentally perceived stress can result in either distress or eustress. The researchers’ interview with Ms. Sofia Grace Lina, a Psychology professor, reveals that the objective stressor is a “trigger” while a student’s reaction to it depends on how he or she mentally perceives the “trigger.” The gravity of the stress level is entirely dependent on how the student reacts to it or how much it affects him or her.
